Used Eye Glasses:

Lions, Leos, and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses for donation to Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers that are located throughout the world. The used eyeglasses are cleaned, repaired and classified by prescription.

The eyeglasses are then distributed to those in need by Lion volunteers and other organizations hosting optical missions in developing countries.

Individuals may donate used eyeglasses to Lions clubs via:

  • Lions collection boxes (available for purchase through Lions Club Supplies) located at various community offices and businesses
  • Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers
  • Offices of American Optometric Association or the Canadian Association of Optometrists members
  • Goodwill Industries stores
  • LensCrafters stores

From: Lion Salvador Martinez [4-L2] Sight Chairperson

Fellow Lions: First of all I want to thank all the clubs and Lions for actively supporting "The Used Eyeglass Collection Project". Last year over 41,000 pairs of used eyeglasses were collected and turned into the “Lions Eye Foundation of Southern California” and they were forwarded to “Lions in Sight”. By working together every one of us can make a positive different in the lives of people, in need of eyeglasses, all over the world.

I am urging all Lions Clubs and Lions to continue collecting used eyeglasses. Submitting the eyeglasses that you collect is easy. You can turn them into the “Lions Eye Foundation of Southern California” on the third Monday of every month at our monthly meeting (7:00p.m.). We meet at Bruce’s Restaurant, 12623 Imperial Hiwy., Santa Fe Springs. If this is not feasible for your club please call me and I will make arrangements to pick up the glasses myself. One way or the other we will make sure the glasses get turned in and your club receives proper credit for the amount submitted. It is critical that you fill out the “Collection Report Form” and put it in the boxes or bags with the glasses. This tells me from which club the glasses are from. If you don’t have a report form then please fill out a slip of paper with the club’s name on it. You do not have to clean out the broken glasses or glass cases however it does help.

I also have an approx. 20-30 min. presentation on Eyeglass Collection that I would be happy to present to your club. Please contact me if your club would like this presentation for your program meeting.

Thank you again for your support and efforts in regards to this most worthing project.
